The protective measures apply to nearly 60 million acres of sagebrush steppe in eleven western states.

One thing you can be sure of: The plan will never result in larger AMLs and more wild horses on western rangelands.

A report posted 03/14/19 by 13 News Now in Norfolk, VA says a disease that infected some of the wild horses on Assateague Island last year is the subject of research aimed at preventing it.  The chances of surviving the infection are low if not treated early.

No new cases of the disease, known as pythiosis, have been reported in 2019 according to the report.

A covered arena at The Serenity Ranch in Bozeman collapsed on March 2 but nobody was hurt, according to a report posted yesterday by KTVQ in Billings.

The facility helps women veterans cope with PTSD and related issues.  It also rescues mistreated and wild horses.

Adoption events will occur this month in Arkansas, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, California and Nevada.  Refer to the BLM adoption schedule for details.

What will be the results for the horses involved?  How many will end up at livestock auctions or kill pens?

It’s not about finding good homes for the horses, it’s about pushing more them off the range so their food can be sold to public-lands ranchers.

A group of wild horse ‘advocates’ will be at the Nevada state capital today, urging the governor to resume a ‘humane fertility control program’ for the Virginia Range mustangs, according to a report posted this morning by FOX-11 in Reno.

Members of the darting team will be on hand to demonstrate fertility control equipment and techniques.  It’s not about reducing population growth but reducing the number of horses on the Virginia Range.  How many of them are aborting, contracepting, and sterilizing in their own lives?

A darting program sponsored by the American Wild Horse Campaign was terminated by the Nevada Department of Agriculture in October 2017.

The Virginia Range, with a population density exceeding ten horses per thousand acres, contradicts statements made by the BLM and ranchers that western rangelands are overpopulated and subject to damage when wild horse populations surpass AMLs, which are usually set at one horse per thousand acres.

That’s why you have to push back against these people.

Dozens of mustangs on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation are trapped in a valley with no food, according to a report posted today in The Bulletin of Bend, OR.

Volunteers with Mustang MEND and Central Oregon Equine Rescue are working with families in the area to get hay to the horses.

They are also discussing birth control options with tribal leaders who manage the horses, according to the report.

The meeting will be held at the Sparks office starting at 9:00 AM, with remote participation from the Elko and Las Vegas offices.

The Virginia Range mustangs are not on the agenda but are likely to be mentioned in the public comments.

These horses are managed at the state level, not subject to oversight by the BLM or Forest Service.  They roam on the hills east of Reno.

The remarks from 12:39 to 13:15 in this video demonstrate the arrogance of these people.  Everybody bow to the public-lands ranchers, all hail the government serfs!

The body was spotted near the edge of State Highway 318 in mid February, according to a report posted yesterday by the Craig Press.  The cause of death is unknown.

The mare’s home range, in northwestern Colorado, was hit by drought last summer, but the horses survived on water hauled in by volunteers.

Today the BLM authorized the removal of 213 wild horses from the North Hills JMA in southwestern Utah.  The roundup would occur later this year.

The area, consisting of the North Hills HMA and North Hills WHT, is managed jointly by the BLM and Forest Service.  It is northwest of Enterprise.

The roundup would restore a balance between the horses and other public land resources, according to the news release.  Given that livestock grazing occurs on the HMA (but not on the WHT), those resources are probably cattle or sheep.

The distribution of AUMs among the inhabitants of the JMA was not provided in the announcement but odds are that the lion’s share goes to livestock, with some crumbs going to horses and wildlife.

Never mind that the land was set aside for the horses.

Wild horse AUM consumption, pre-gather, is about 3,000 AUMs per year.  Post-gather AUM consumption will be 500 AUMs annually, assuming forty horses remain on the HMA (which puts the herd in the ‘Not Genetically Viable’ category).
