What’s So Important about the Virginia Range?

It defies the overpopulation and carrying capacity narratives.

You can’t be telling the American people that public lands in the western U.S. can only support one wild horse per thousand acres (27,000 animals on 27 million acres) while the Virginia Range is carrying ten (3,000 animals on 300,000 acres).

It must be erased, and the advocates are eager to help.

The population target of 600 animals, mentioned at the March 7 hearing for SB90, means an 80% reduction in herd size, at least, exactly what Velma was trying to stop.

As for the advocates, they are fools.  Don’t give them a penny.

  1. The wild horses of the Virginia Range are a real asset. They bolster the ecosystem, augment its biodiversity, lend much needed balance and resilience and complement the ruminant grazers such as the mule deer. By enriching soils they make them better aquifers, holding more water like a living sponge. And their post gastric, caecal-fermenting digestive system also makes it so that they contribute more viable intact seeds of a greater variety that go on to germinate under the appropriate conditions, which they help because their droppings are less digested and have more of a long-term decomposition cycle by which they contribute a lot more intact organic molecules that literally feeds the soil ecosystem and hence all the plants and animals who depend upon these soils. There is so much dishonesty and lying that is going on and is aimed against the naturally livingl horses and burros too. They are ancient and long-standing presences especially here in North America, their evolutionary cradle. We should get people to honor them and respect them and to restore them to their rightful land and freedom and as truly long-term-viable populations in commensurate long-term-viable habitats, respectively for horses and for burros. Reserve Design and Rewilding are the appropriate plans here and to start with Voluntary Grazing Permit Retirement at fair-market valuable, but if necessary under CFR 4710.5 mandatory retirement.
