Red Desert Roundup Ends

The incident concluded on October 29 with 1,035 horses captured, 1,018 shipped, none released and 17 dead.

There were no unaccounted-for animals.

The death rate was 1.6%.  Sixteen deaths were intentional.

The capture total included 372 stallions, 435 mares and 228 foals.

Operations spanned 14 days and the average daily take was 73.9.

The roundup liberated 12,420 AUMs per year for other mandated uses of public lands.

That number will go down if some of the horses, treated with fertility control or not, are returned to the range.
