Price of Hay Going Up Again

A bale of alfalfa/grass mix sold for $30 last week, compared to $29 in August and $28 in April.

The price five years ago was $19.

A horse in private care would need around five bales per month, putting the cost of feed at $150 per AUM.

Forage on public lands sells for $1.69 per AUM.

The upward trend may correlate with the rising cost of diesel.
