The Crooked Creek fire started June 15 and has consumed about 5,000 acres, according to a report by the Billings Gazette. A BLM spokesman said the wild horse herd would not be affected.
The forecast at Inciweb says growth will be to the north due to prevailing winds.
The cause of the fire is not known.
