The latest track puts the hurricane along the North Carolina coast on Friday, bringing the onshore flow (storm surge) to the wild horses of the Outer Banks.
The area took a direct hit from Florence almost a year ago. The counter-clockwise rotation of the system will push seawater inland, flooding low lying areas.
